  4. Though released under the Jan & Dean moniker, Save for a Rainy Day was solely Torrence's creation. A concept album featuring songs about rain with sound effects of a thunderstorm linking the tracks, it was an adventurous departure from the duo's past work. Much of the album was recorded in the garage of Torrence's neighbor, bassist Joe Osbourne.
  5. Dean Torrence also had a hand in the creation of the songs, with session musicians Larry Knetchel and Joe Osborne sharing song credits throughout the album. Save It For A Rainy Day may be one of those albums that often gets overlooked, but if you happen to see it in your local record bin, it is a gem worthy of picking up.

  7. However, re-evaluation of his talent is in order, due largely to this fantastic release (and various 45s with the same band, before and after SAVE FOR A RAINY DAY). Recorded in in Jan's wake (Berry was in a coma), and as an attempt to keep the Jan & Dean name alive, SAVE FOR A RAINY DAY has Torrence and band providing a moody/mellow sound /5(20).
  8. Nevertheless, when the architect of the duo, Jan Berry, was incapacitated in early by a terrible car accident that ultimately left him brain-damaged, Dean Torrence took up the business and musical reins of the band and made a nearly convincing one-shot stab at progressive pop with Save for a Rainy Day. In a sense, the album is still more.
